For rural producers

Noble timber that fits your farm's cycle.

Mogno Bahia® combines selected genetics, guided forest management and the GWG Protocol to deliver noble timber on an economic cycle of ≈ 10 years — with A+ quality validated by the IPT.

Producer · Intro + Comparison (Mogno Bahia® vs traditional)

Ten years, not thirty.

Noble timber has always demanded patience measured in decades. Mogno Bahia® was developed to challenge that paradigm: a commercial forest with an economic cycle of just ten years, with no thinning and two commercial harvests.

Half the forest is harvested in year 5. The other half in year 10.

No tree is removed along the way without generating value. Every one takes part in the forest's commercial output.

The cycle in numbers

Fine wood. By the numbers.

Year 5 · first cut

100–120 m3/ha

Quality A · ~85% heartwood

First return of the cycle, still halfway through the route.

Year 10 · second cut-off

430–450 m3/haA+

Quality A+ · IPT validation

Complete economic cycle, with established premium quality.

Total · complete cycle

Total accumulated volume from the two harvests of the cycle.

Noble aplications

It's not just a faster cycle. It's wood for noble applications.

Density, stability and visual presence on a par with applications traditionally reserved for long-cycle noble timbers

At 10 years

Predominantly heartwood

Applications

furniture · architecture · interiors.

Who's behind it

More than 30 years of forest research. Applied in the field.

We develop smart forests — living systems capable of producing noble timber with unprecedented productivity, efficiency and predictability.

Forest Biotechnology

Genome Wood Group

Mogno Bahia® grew out of more than 30 years of observing wood in the field, led by a family of woodworkers in Western Bahia. The result is a new genetic foundation for noble tropical hardwood production

The choice of those who know best

Rodrigo Azevedo, at the Selva Florestal nursery in Porangatu.

I traveled all across Brazil looking for mahogany. Here is where I was impressed — and I decided to plant it on my own land.

Onboarding process

Four steps.
No commitment until the site is validated.

Start the site's technical assessment

Initial information for a technical analysis of the property's forestry suitability

Receive the site's technical diagnosis

The GWG team analyzes the site's suitability, recommends the planting model and structures the project's technical proposal.

Formalize the seedling order

Once the site is technically approved, the producer formalizes the seedling purchase and reserves the project's planting window.

Access the GWG technical ecosystem

Activation of the GWG Protocol, access to the Mogno Bahia® Producer Platform and continuous technical support throughout the forest cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What producers usually ask.

The technical suitability diagnosis happens before the seedlings are released — not after. We don’t sell to areas that fail the climate and soil assessment. If your site isn’t a fit for the system, you’ll know that before signing any commitment. The risk of planting in an unsuitable area is eliminated at the source.
The volumes of 100–120 m³/ha at 5 years and 430–450 m³/ha at 10 years come from real GWG commercial forests, grown in the field in Western Bahia — not from theoretical modeling. The wood’s physical properties were validated by the IPT. The GWG Protocol sets the operational standards behind these numbers, and the Producer Program exists precisely so each producer can execute them on their own farm
Global demand for noble tropical hardwood has outstripped supply for decades — that is exactly what led Brazilian mahogany to CITES protection and now puts pressure on other noble species in the international market. Mogno Bahia® steps into that gap: cultivated noble timber with traceable origin, aimed at fine furniture, architectural finishing, musical instruments and export.
Producers at the Performance tier have early access to GWG’s commercial networks. Others can sell freely — Mogno Bahia® wood is positioned as a forest asset, not a commodity dependent on a single buyer. Its liquidity comes from the combination of validated quality (IPT), traceable origin and positioning in noble-application markets.
It’s not about switching. African mahogany and Mogno Bahia® follow different forest-portfolio logics: a long cycle versus a 10- year economic cycle. A producer who combines the two diversifies their return horizon, reduces exposure to a single harvest calendar and keeps forest assets at different stages of maturity.
The investment varies with seedling volume, planting window and location — specific figures only make sense after your site’s diagnosis. The seedling price already includes the Producer Program’s Essential tier at no extra cost, and the personalized proposal lays out all the figures tailored to your project, with no surprise costs over the cycle.
